Back in Brisbane I learnt how to cast using the lost wax process. This was very time consuming as there are many steps to go through in preparation for the final casting, but of course this produces quite accurate results. The images above were generated through sand casting with pewter. I made master moulds with polymer clay, capturing textures from my laser engravings. I really enjoy this method, it is instant and the spontaneity of the result is exciting as I like the mistakes that can transform a piece for the better. My only problem with these works is they are not colourful – my theme is bruises so it is hard to find a way for these to fit with my thought process so far. In saying that, the textures still communicate imperfections on the skin like gashes and wounds.
